Osteopathy
It is primarily a ‘hands on’ manual therapy using a wide variety of treatment modalities, including:
- Massage techniques
- Joint manipulation
- Joint mobilisation
- Stretches
- Exercise
Adjuncts to osteopathic treatment may also be used such as:
- Electrotherapy
- Ultrasound
- Dry needling (acupuncture)
- Vibration therapy
- Taping
- Dietary advice
What can you expect on your first visit?
Your first visit will take approximately one hour and will include:
- Taking a comprehensive case history (listening to your problems and asking some questions)
- Observations of posture and movement (looking at how you stand and move)
- Clinical testing of muscles, joints, and nerves (looking for possible causes or consequences of your problem)
- A full explanation of findings and an honest opinion
- Treatment and recommendations (as appropriate)
Follow-up treatments are approximately 30 minutes.
Please Note
In order to accurately assess the area to be treated, you may be asked to remove a certain amount of clothing. You will need to wear sensible underwear or shorts. Patients may bring a chaperone to any treatment.
